Rs 137 cr for Gannavaram airport's new terminal

Hyderabad, Nov 11: The Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada is expected to get a new terminal at a cost of Rs 137 crore and the construction works will begin soon. Announcing this to the media here, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said an additional 698 acres of land is required for the airport expansion. In this connection, he said, the state government has already issued mandatory orders for land pooling. With regards to the Rajahundry airport, Rao said the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of preparing estimates for the runway expansion works. He also said construction works for the three apron bays at the Rajahmundry airport are under progress. He further said that by November-end the government will be handing over 857 acrs of land for the airport's expansion plans to the AAI. With reference to Tirupati airport, Rao said the works related to four additional parking bays and an isolation bay could be completed by July next year. He then said Tirupati airport is expected to get an international airport tag by December this year.
