Sujana's statement stirs controversy
Vijayawada, Nov 08: TDP senior leader and Union Minister Sujana Chowdary has stirred a controversy by saying that he was personally against reservations for women.
Addressing women entrepreneurs at a programme in the city yesterday, the Minister said: “By giving reservations to women, we are trying to isolate them and keep them in a closed environment.”
Instead of giving reservations to women, we should encourage and provide opportunities to them to excel in the their chosen profession, he said.
The Minister said that woman can achieve anything and asked them to utilise several schemes being implemented by Central and state governments.
He questioned the rationale for extending reservation for women at the time whey they are forging ahead in all sectors.
