AP lawyers demand bifurcation of High Court
Hyderabad, Nov 7: Lawyers in Andhra Pradesh are demanding the immediate bifurcation of the High Court in Hyderabad and shifting the judiciary to the proposed Justice City in Amaravati.
Member of AP Bar Council Muppala Subba Rao said the lawyers want the government to set up a separate High Court and Bar Council for AP at the earliest.
"The three arms of the government - legislature, executive and judiciary - should be located in the same place for administrative convenience," he said.
According to the lawyers, more than 75 per cent of cases in the Hyderabad High Court come from AP. If the government shifts all its departments to Vijayawada and Guntur region without bifurcating the High Court, then officers will have to commute to Hyderabad to attend court hearings impacting the regular work.
They said even petitioners will have to frequently rush to Hyderabad to attend to High Court work.
According to sources, the Chief Justice of Hyderabad High Court Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale and two other judges had recently inspected the 500 acre land near Tulluru where the proposed Justice City is expected to come up.
The lawyers are also demanding the bifurcation of the AP Bar Council at the earliest.
