Prithika is India's first transgender SI in Chennai

Hyderabad, Nov 6: The 25-year-old K Prithika Yashini of Chennai in Tamil Nadu is set to become the country's first transgender Sub Inspector of Police after the Madras High Court declared that she is a fit candidate. Following the HC directives, The TN government is preparing to appoint Prithika Yashini as a Sub Inspector. The high court is also said to have directed the state recruitment board to make appropriate changes in the rules to take in transgenders into the state police force, sources said. Prithika Yashini was born and brought up as a boy named Pradeep Kumar. After completing Computer Applications graduation programme, Pradeep went in for a ***** change surgery to become Prithika. When the the state police recruitment board refused to accept her application on the grounds that it doesn't have a third gender category, Prithika filed a series of writ petitions and finally qualified to the post.
