Cosumers could face Rs 4,505cr power tarrif shock in AP
Hyderabad, Nov 4: Consumers in Andhra Pradesh could face a Rs 4,505cr power tariff shock spread over 25 years if the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) approves the power purchase agreement (PPA) between NTPC and the two discoms of the state for the supply of power from the later's biggest solar power project located in Anantapur district.
The Centre for Power Studies (CPS) found that if the agreement is approved the discoms would have to pay a tariff of Rs. 9.71 per kwh. If this happens, CPS expects a burden of at least Rs. 180 crore per annum on the discoms.
Over a period of 25 years this translates to Rs 4,505 crore and the discoms could most likely pass on the burden to the consumers.
