Ragging rages in AU, Ganta to visit campus

Visakhapatnam, Nov 03: Ragging attracts penal action and it is officially banned but it manifests in some form or other in the state. Junior students staying at AU Engineering College Girls hostel have levelled ragging allegations against their seniors. The junior students said that seniors were summoning them to parks and behaving in an abusive manner. As soon as the news broke out today, Andhra University Registrar Umamaheswara Rao carried out surprise inspections in the hostel. The Registrar interacted with the senior and junior girl students and asked them to bring ragging incidents to his notice. He said that separate accommodation was provided to junior and senior students. "It came to our notice that some senior students were making objectionable comments on junior students at the mess hall," he said. He said that staff would be deputed at the mess hall to keep a tab on ragging. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao will visit the university shortly and he would convene a meeting with officials to discuss the issue.
