Helmet rule deferred in AP amidst complaints of police harassment
Hyderabad, Nov 1: The Andhra Pradesh government has deferred compulsory helmet rule. The rule came into effect from today.
As there were complaints that police were harassing motorists, the government deferred the rule for sometime.
In a press release here, Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao said that two-wheeler riders may need not compulsorily wear helmets.
He directed the transport and police departments to give wide publicity on use of helmets. He said that the rule will be only enforced after making motorists aware of the benefits of wearing helmets.
Meanwhile, motorists expressed unhappiness over the alleged police harassment.
