Thousands turn up for 'Sirimanotsavam' fete

Vizianagaram, Oct 27: Thousands of devotees poured into Vizianagaram town to participate in 'Sirimanotsavam', the annual festival of Sri Pyditalli Ammavaru, the presiding deity of Vizianagaram. 'Sirimanotsavam' is the popular festival in the region. The temple chief priest will be made to sit atop a 50-foot-long pole fixed to a chariot. The chariot will go round the temple thrice covering all the main streets in the town. Devotees offer bananas, other fruits and flowers to priest atop the pole as a part of the festivities. The temple hereditary trustee Union Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao, MP Maganti Babu and others visited the temple and offered special prayers. Thousands of devotees from AP and Odisha participated in the festivities.
