TS, M'rashtra fail to reach accord on Tummidihatti barrage

Hyderabad, Oct 27: Engineering officials of Telangana and Maharashtra have failed to a reach an accord on a barrage to be constructed across River Godavari at Tummidihatti in Adilabad district as a part of Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project. The Maharashtra government has reiterated its stand that the barrage height should be restricted to 148 metres while the Telangana government proposed the height at 152 metres. The Telangana government had made it clear that it would not be possible to divert water if the barrage height is less than 152 metres. TS irrigation advisor Ch Vidyasagar Rao said that a political decision would only resolve the dispute. Union Minister Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, who represents Chandrapur LS seat in Maharashtra, has stirred a controversy by saying that the barrage can be constructed even at the height of 160 metres.
