Foundation being laid for new terminal at Gannavaram airport

Hyderabad, Oct 19: Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Ashok Gajapati Raju and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada. The central government has released Rs 150 crore for the development of the new terminal. It may be recalled that in May this year, civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju directed the officials to complete works pertaining to development of a new terminal and lounges at the earliest. The idea was to upgrade the airport on international standards, after the state government had announced that Vijayawada-Guntur region would be the new capital region of the state. Sources said, Airport Authority India (AAI) officials had prepared a plan to expand the runway at the airport from the existing 7,500 feet to 10,500 feet. this will facilitate easy landing of international flights.
