TS plans to appoint KCR as Chancellor of OU, KU

Hyderabad, Oct 9: The Telangana State government is understood to have decided to appoint TRS supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as Chancellor of Osmania and Kakatiya universities. Similarly, renowned personalities like Chinna Jeeyar Swami and Jupally Rameswar Rao will also be appointed as Chancellors of State universities. It may be recalled that the State government recently amended the Universities Act and empowered itself to appoint Chancellors of universities in the place of Governor. Though the Act has no provisions on educational qualifications of Chancellors, Education Ministry officials said that eminent personalities or functionaries of government would be appointed as Chancellors. The word of CM is final while appointing Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors. The officials are planning to ask KCR to take charge as Chancellor of OU and KU. Sources said that industrialist and My Home Group chairman Jupally Rameswar Rao may be appointed as Chancellor of JNTUH in Hyderabad. Name of JN Reddy of the Texas A&M University is also under consideration for JNTUK Chancellor post. Similarly, Jeeyar Swami may be appointed as Chancellor of Telugu University.
