Alluri's death has Netaji-like twist
Visakhapatnam, Sep 29: Like Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, it is believed that Alluri Seetharama Raju had not died as was recorded in history.
It may be noted that Alluri fought against the British with the help of tribals in agency areas spreading across East & West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts.
According to reports, some believe that it was a case of mistaken identity and British officers actually killed Seetharama Raju's follower Upparapally Veera Venkata Chary.
There is a growing demand that DNA tests be conducted to see if the tooth and hair samples of a sadhu matches with the samples of Alluri's family members or descendants.
It is said that Alluri resurfaced as Sri Paramahamsa Chidhvenkata Rama Brahmananda Maharshi popularly known as Bendapudi Sadhu at Bendapudi in East Godavari district.
A human genetics student Naga Simhadri urged the government to unravel the mystery behind the death of Alluri.
As per the directions of AP government, police recently visited Bendapudi to collect details. The police sought legal opinion and they may send the samples for testing to CCMB for DNA tests.
Alluri died at the age of 27. Locals believe that Bendapudi Sadhu lived without revealing his identify and he died in 1968. However, historians brushed aside the theory.
