Centre gives conditional nod to Vijayawada Metro

Delhi, Sep 17: The Union Urban Development Ministry today conveyed its conditional consent to Vijayawada Metro Rail. Speaking to the media here, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that AP government can take up the Vijayawada Metro project and sign MOU. The metro project has two corridors covering a length of 26.03 km. Metro Rail Corridor-1 covers 12.76 km length from Pandit Nehru Bus Terminal to Penamaluru and corridor-2 covers 13.72 km length from Pandit Nehru Bus Station to Nidamanuru. The project should be taken up as per Centre's guidelines. Delhi Metro Rail chief Sreedharan will supervise Vijayawada Metro Rail project. It may be noted that Centre earlier denied nod to Vijayawada Metro Rail citing certain reasons. The state government should take steps to link road and railway networks with the Metro. Venkaiah Naidu has assured all the necessary help to state government to take up Vijayawada Metro project.
