Godavari to be linked with Krishna tomorrow

Vijayawada, Sep 15: TDP supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will release Godavari river water into River Krishna tomorrow to mark the formal linking of the two rivers. The programme will be held at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada. Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said that state has created a history by the completing project within the scheduled time. The project helps to divert 80 tmc of Godavari water to River Krishna. The proposal to inter-link rivers has been under consideration since Independence. Eminent engineer and former Union Irrigation Minister KL Rao and Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government mooted the river-linking projects idea to insulate the country from drought and to control floods. Pattiseema project on River Godavari in West Godavari district has made river-linking dream a reality. According to reports, the confluence of Krishna and Godavari rivers at Ibrahimpatnam would be developed as a tourist spot.
