Engg student held for luring school girls online, extortion bid

Hyderabad, Sep 11: The police today arrested an engineering student on the charges of trying to extort money from school girls after befriending them online with a fake Facebook Id of a girl. The youth created a fake Facebook account in the name of a girl and posted a photo of a girl known to him as profile picture. Claiming that he was a teenaged school girl, he sent friendship requests to girl students of reputed schools in Hyderabad. Pretending to be a school girl, the accused shared a morphed photo of a girl stating that it was taken while enjoying time with the boy friend. The accused asked other school girls in his friends list to share photos if they too had boy friends. Unaware of the malafide intentions, the girl students of reputed schools in the city, shared their private photos. The accused then claimed that he was a police officer and threatened the girls for illegally opening Facebook accounts before attaining 18 years age. He demanded money not to initiate action against them and warned that he would show the private photos to their respective parents. On the basis of a complaint, Cyberabad police nabbed the accused.
