Doctors medically examine Nepalese rape victims

Gurgaon, Sep 10: A team of four doctors here conducted a second medical examination of the two Nepalese women who have alleged they were raped and gangraped by a Saudi Arabian diplomat, police said on Thursday. The doctors conducted the second test on Wednesday following a request by the case investigating officer. Gurgaon police chief Navdeep Singh Virk said the second medical examination was conducted to amplify the findings of the first medical report and also obtain an opinion from a committee of doctors rather than one. He said the medical reports have great evidentiary value in such cases and are most helpful in reaching a fair conclusion. Gurgaon Police, in its latest report sent to the ministry of external affairs on Thursday, has presented all the facts that have come forth in the investigation so far. Keeping in mind the provisions of the Vienna Convention governing diplomatic immunity, Virk has requested assistance from the ministry in conducting further investigation into the matter. The ministry has also requested Gurgaon police to be aware of all international protocols to be followed in such cases. It has also been clarified to the ministry that the allegations levelled by the Saudi Arabian embassy have been verified and that Gurgaon police have acted within the purview of Indian law, and have not violated the provisions of any diplomatic convention or protocol.
