AP cancels Sompeta Thermal Power Plant: Achannaidu

Vijayawada, Aug 29: Andhra Pradesh cabinet today took a slew of decisions including the cancellation of permission to the Sompeta Thermal Power Plant. Briefing the media about the various decisions taken at the cabinet meeting here today, AP Minister Achannaidu said the government has decided to cancel the GO No 1107 under which the YS Rajasekhar Reddy government had permitted the construction of the thermal power plant at Sompeta in Srikakulam district. The state cabinet has also decided to re-distribute the land given to the power plant to several new food processing industries, the minister explained. He said the decision is in line with the promises made during the election period. He also said a total of 42 issues were discussed during the just-concluded cabinet meeting. Some of the other issues that were discussed included capital master developer, labour welfare, new law to confiscate assets of red sanders smugglers and salaries of representatives of local self government bodies. The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu chaired the cabinet meeting.
