700 kgs onions stolen

Mumbai, August 24: The spiralling onion prices tempted a thief to steal onions. Unidentified thieves stole about 700 kgs onions from a shop in Sine Pratikshanagar in Mumbai. The shop owner Anand Naik went to Truck Terminus police station in Mumbai Vadala to file a complaint. Police asked Anand whether CCTV cameras were installed in his shop. They were surprised when Anand replied that he doesn't run a gold shop to install CCTV cameras but he sells onions. "I never expected that thieves would rob my shop," he lamented. When he opened the shop on Saturday morning, there was not even a single onion. About 700 kgs onions worth Rs 50,000 was gone. Police advised all onion traders to be on alert.
