Proposal to shift Malakpet race course resurfaces

Hyderabad, August 21: The issue of shifting of Malakpet Race Course once again came to fore. In March 2014, even before his party won the polls, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao considered shifting of the Race Course and Chanchalguda Jail to the city outskirts. His plan is to set up an education hub in the place of the Jail and IT Park at the Race Course. After coming to power, the CM broached the subject in October 2014 saying that the government will get hundreds of acres of land by shifting the two establishments. This could be used for other productive use. The Race Course has a sprawling area of about 126 acres while Chanchalguda Jail is set up in 60 acres. The government is also considering shifting the Mint beside the jail.
