Nagari tense; Roja, three other YSRCP MLAs arrested

Nagari (Chittoor), Aug 19: Situation is tense at Nagari town in Chittoor district as YSRCP called for a massive dharna today in protest against the arrest of the party leaders. According to reports, large police contingents were deployed in the town to prevent outbreak of any untoward incident. Police set up check posts at all roads leading to the town and are checking vehicles and detaining YSRCP activists entering the town. Nagari MLA Roja, Punganur MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Palmaneru MLA Amarnatha Reddy, GD Nellore MLA Narayanaswamy and several other leaders were arrested as a precautionary measures. The arrested cadres are being shifted to Nagulapuram, Vijayapuram, Puttur and other police stations in the district. Police clamped Section 144 in the town to prevent any untoward incident. It may be noted that MLA Roja called for a massive dharna today in protest against the arrest of YSRCP leader and former municipal chairperson Kumar's son Suresh Kumar. Police denied permission to the protest and carried out mass preventive arrests.
