Ragging: SVU suspends seven students

Tirupati, Aug 18: Sri Venkateswara University officials suspended seven final year MCA students in connection with the ragging incident at the varsity's hostel recently. Soon after the reports of ragging broke out, the university constituted a committee to probe the incident. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao also directed the officials to take stern action to prevent recurrence of ragging incidents. K Sivakesava Naidu, M Bhanu Prakash Reddy, Y Narendra, A Mahesh, S Rufus, Ravi Chandra and M Malyadri were expelled from the hostel and suspended from attending the college. The university informed the police about the alleged ragging. The incident came to light when harassed juniors reported the matter to a student organisation. The university is planning to install CC cameras and deploy security guards in hostels and other locations to prevent ragging. Tirupati SP Gopinath Jatti will address the students at an anti-ragging programme to be held on the university premises today.
