Fate of Mangalagiri AIIMS hangs in balance

Mangalagiri (Guntur) Aug 17: The fate of the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri hangs in balance due to the legal disputes on the land allocated to the institute. The construction works are yet to begin though government allocated the land six months ago. The state allocated 200 acres land belonging to TB Sanatorium to AIIMS and fifty acres site in the proposed site was allocated to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) battalion. AIIMS officials inspected the site and urged the government to allocate 250 acres and finally they accepted the proposal to allocate 220 acre. Though Collector offered alternative land to NDRF and issued notices to vacate land, NDRF officials refused to vacate and started construction works. With this the Union Health Ministry kept the proposal in abeyance. According to reports, TB Sanatorium land is 170 acres and government included 50 acres fallow (Konda Poramboku) land for the proposed AIIMS. The AIIMS officials refused to take the 50 acres fallow land and even if NDRF vacates, only 120 acres land will be left.
