HC gives 3 months to TS to fill up VC posts

Hyderabad, August 7: The Telangana government has got three months' time to fill the the Vice-Chancellors' posts in the State. High Court division bench granted the time to the government, in response to a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by a voluntary organisation Forum for Good Governance. The organisation's secretary M Padmanabha Reddy stated in the petition that the Telangana government failed to appoint the VCs to about 10 universities in the State. The petitioner's counsel submitted that Osmania, JNTU, Telangana, Kakatiya, Mahatma Gandhi, PS Telugu University, BR Ambedkar Open University, Palamuru, Satavahana and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts are some of the universities that have no regular VC. They are running with in-charge VCs. Also the counsel quoted that these universities have been running with less than 50% of sanctioned teaching staff. Additional Advocate General J Ramachandra Rao explained to the court the steps will be taken up by the government to fill the vacant VC posts. He requested the High Court to give six months time to complete the process which the Court denied and granted three months time.
