25,000 people died in 2014 in train accidents

New Delhi/Hyderabad, August 5: More than 25,000 people died due to train-related accidents in the country in 2014. Another 3,882 were injured, as per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Telangana State recorded more railway crossing accidents compared to other states, with 1,061 such accidents. According to NCRB, a total of 28,360 cases regarding train accidents were registered in 2014. This number is 9.2 per cent less than previous year. 61.6 per cent accident occurred due to fall from the train or trains colliding with other vehicles on the tracks etc. Maharashtra topped other states with 42.5 per cent of such accidents. About 469 mishaps took place due to mechanical/technical failures i.e., track failures, problems on bridges/caves etc. Highest number of people, 385 persons, were killed in the united Andhra Pradesh State due to the railway mechanical failures. 18 people died in 18 train accidents that were triggered by terrorists. 60 accidents took place due to drivers' fault which killed 67 people.
