20,000 ton gold reserves in Indian temples: World Gold Council
Hyderabad, Aug 03: Temples located across the country have 20,000 ton gold reserves, according to a recent study conducted by World Gold Council (WGC).
Experts said that the temples suffered a loss of Rs 6 lakh crore due to the recent steep fall in gold prices.
On an average people buy 2.3 ton gold every day in the country and 18 per cent of the procured gold is offered to temples.
Padmanabha Swamy temple at Trivandrum has gold reserves above 3,000 ton. Next comes Tirumala temple which receives 80 to 100 kg gold from devotees every month. TTD has deposited 4,000 kg gold in various banks and according to an estimate it has gold reserves worth Rs 70,000 crore.
