Give me car, petrol, says ex Prez
New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 29: While the entire country was mourning the death of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, another former President Pratibha Patil wanted the government to allot official car and petrol allowances. Also she sought green signal to use her own vehicle.
As per the government rules, petrol allowance would be provided to former Presidents if they have own vehicle. Otherwise, a government vehicle will be provided to them.
To accept Pratibha Patil's request, the rules have to be modified. According to sources, she said that she will use her own car in Pune and will use government vehicle when she visits other places. This, according to sources, is not possible for now.
The Central Home Ministry has been communicating with her office since three months over this issue. Finally, she was left with the choice of choosing either own vehicle or official.
The problem started when the former President returned the government vehicle, saying that it was not sufficient and wanted a bigger one. Meanwhile, she used petrol allowance. The Maharashtra government objected to her request for a government vehicle for her outside tours and put the issue before the Central Home Ministry.
