Will act tough on caste, religious groups in varsities: Ganta
Tirupati, July 27: HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has said that government will act tough on the caste and religion-based organisations functioning from universities. He was speaking at Vice-Chancellors meeting here today.
Ganta said that caste groups were bringing disrepute to the universities and added that police outposts will be set up on the campuses to contain the menace. He said that Private Varsities Bill will be placed before the Cabinet soon.
The Minister announced that a retired IAS officer will probe the suicidal death of ANU B Arch student Rishikeswari. He reiterated that those behind the incident will not be spared and elaborated the steps taken to control ragging in educational institutions.
He told officials to introduce biometric attendance and barcode ID cards to students. Besides this, the meet also resolve to install CC cameras at hostels and to organise VCs meeting for every three months.
