10-day holidays for ANU
Guntur/Hyderabad, July 25: With a view to containing growing unrest following the suicide of first year B.Arch student Rishikeswari, Acharya Nagarjuna University authorities shut down the campus for 10 days from today.
Protests were growing on the University campus eversince Rishikeswari committed suicide.
Fearing trouble from the agitating students, the university officials on Friday night decided to close the university for a few days so that the conditions on the university return to normalcy.
In-charge Vice-Chancellor Sambasiva Rao, Urban SP Sarva Sresth Tripathi, Guntur RDO Bhaskar Naidu and other higher officials of the university met for two hours from 8 pm on Friday at VC chamber hall.
Following the directives of AP Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivas Rao, they decided to remove all the boards displaying caste associations with immediate effect.
They also decided to send out people other than students living in the hostels.
