Against the backdrop of Supreme Court directives, the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday announced the schedule for elections to 100 urban local bodies in the state. Polling will be held on November 1, with vote counting and declaration of results scheduled for November 3, State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Puneetha said in a statement.
The SEC said the schedule has been released in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders.
Following disputes that arose during the recent nomination process, the Commission has decided to re-open nominations in certain wards of four urban bodies. Fresh nominations will be accepted on October 23 and 24 in Kadapa Corporation, Tirupati Corporation, Rajampet Municipality and Mydukur Municipality. Scrutiny of nominations will be completed on October 25, after which the final list of candidates will be published.
The affected wards are as follows:
Kadapa Corporation – 11 wards
Tirupati Corporation – 18 wards
Rajampet Municipality – 11 wards
Mydukur Municipality – 32 wards
With the release of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect across the state, the SEC clarified.
