73 IIT students expelled for scoring less than 5 CGPA
Dehradun, July 10: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Roorkee expelled 73 students who secured less than 5 CGPA (Cumulative Grand Point Average) in B Tech first year course.
IITs expel students for poor performance and others reasons but usually takes them back. But for the first time, 73 first year B Tech students are expelled from the premier institute.
At the time of admission, the parents of these students had signed a declaration stating that poor performance of their wards could forfeit admission.
A majority of the students said that they were finding it difficult to cope up with the rigorous academic schedule. The officials held a meeting few days ago to consider the mercy pleas of the students but they decided to expel the students.
The IIT officials said that they make efforts to ensure that no student is expelled from the institute on the grounds of poor performance.
