M'rashtra FDA to test Haldiram snacks

Mumbai, July 9: The Maharashtra government has directed the State’s Food and Drug Administration to test Haldiram snacks for pesticides residue, contamination and bacterial salmonella. The State government took the decision as several Haldiram products were banned by US FDA. Haldiram is a reputed snack and sweet manufacturer based at Nagpur. The products are consumed on a large scale in Maharashtra and other states across the country. After Maggi row, many food products are being tested by the State and Central governments. It may be noted Nestle, producer of Maggi noodles, recalled the product due to presence of lead beyond permissible limits and spent Rs 20 crore to destroy the products at a cement factory in the State.
