New Zealanders first to use petrol made from beer

New Zealand, July 9: Who said beer has only negative uses? The by-product of this drink could be turned into fuel that can run vehicles. Another important fact is that this beer-fuel is 8 per cent less economic hazardous than other fuels. New Zealand claims to be the first country to produce this fuel, made from the by-product of beer, called as 'Brewtroleum'. An idea sparked over a few beers and after a series of experiments, the first batch of 3 lakh litres of Brewtroleum was prepared using 30,000 litres of ethanol. DB Export company explained this ethanol was extracted from more than 58,000 litres of leftover yeast while preparing beer, which otherwise would go waste. Now this new fuel was for sale at about 60 petrol bunks in North Islands. The new petroleum was first opened to the public at Gull Kingsland on July 6. The public also got the inaugural offer of free $50.
