Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday announced an immediate financial assistance of ₹20 lakh to the family of medical student Priyanka, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident in Rajahmundry.
Expressing deep anguish over the tragic incident, the Chief Minister said the news of her death had left him deeply disturbed. He described the accident as extremely unfortunate and assured the bereaved family that the state government would stand by them in every possible way.
During a teleconference with district officials on Sunday, Chandrababu Naidu directed the authorities to ensure that the ₹20 lakh ex-gratia amount is disbursed to Priyanka’s family without delay. He recalled that he had already reviewed the matter with the district administration and instructed officials to take stringent action against those responsible for the accident. He stressed that the accused must face severe punishment.
East Godavari Superintendent of Police Narasimha Kishore informed the Chief Minister that the accused have already been arrested and sent to jail. Responding to this, Chandrababu Naidu directed that strong sections of the law be invoked against those who, through their negligence, had caused the loss of a young life, so that they receive the maximum possible punishment.
The incident occurred on August 3 in Rajahmundry when a car being driven at high speed by a group of youths hit medical student Priyanka, leaving her critically injured. She was initially treated in Rajahmundry. Later, her family shifted her to Hyderabad for advanced medical care, where she passed away while undergoing treatment.
