Number portability throughout India from today

New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 3: National level mobile number portability (MNP), which facilitates the mobile customers to change the service provider, retaining their mobile number, starts from today. Mobile operators like Airtel, Vodaphone, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, BSNL and MTNL announced of launching the MNP services in the country. While Uninor, Videocon, MTS and other providers also are gearing up to follow suit. Both prepaid and postpaid customers could avail this facility. There will no need to change their number if they chose to switch over to any another service provider. Airtel also offered to its customers porting within 24 hours to those customers who want to continue Airtel network even after changing telecom circle. That means, the number will be transferred within the limits of the new circle. During this process, there will be free incoming calls without roaming charges. Idea network said already 1.40 crore customers have opted to change their network through MNP from other operators.
