How Chintakayala Vijay Built His Political Career in TDP

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has once again highlighted its emphasis on nurturing young leadership and rewarding organisational commitment by nominating Chintakayala Vijay to the Rajya Sabha. The elevation of the party's State General Secretary is being viewed as recognition of his long-standing association with the organisation and his active role during some of its most challenging years.

Chintakayala Vijay's political journey reflects a steady rise through the ranks of the TDP. Beginning as a grassroots worker, he has emerged as one of the party's prominent young leaders, earning responsibilities at the state level through organisational work, political mobilisation and public outreach.

A firm believer in the importance of academic preparation for public life, Chintakayala Vijay pursued higher education in political management and governance. He holds a Master's degree in Political Management from George Washington University in the United States and a Master's degree in Political Governance from the MIT School of Government in Pune. He completed his B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

His active political involvement began with the "Youth for Babu" padayatra in 2009 and expanded through participation in several key TDP campaigns. He was associated with N. Chandrababu Naidu's "Vastunna Mee Kosam Padayatra"  in 2012 and later in 2023 played a key role in mobilising youth during Nara Lokesh's "Yuvagalam Padayatra". He also led a 250-kilometre march highlighting the concerns of farmers in drought-affected regions.

Between 2019 and 2024, when the TDP was in opposition in Andhra Pradesh, Chintakayala Vijay remained actively engaged in the party's political and organisational activities. Party leaders credit him with helping strengthen the organisation's digital outreach and building a strong social media network that amplified the party's message across various platforms. During this period, he continued his political activities despite facing legal challenges and political pressures.

At the grassroots level, Chintakayala Vijay played a role in several outreach programmes aimed at expanding the party's support base. Among them was the "Meluko Mahila" initiative in Narsipatnam, which drew participation from thousands of women and is regarded by local party leaders as an important mobilisation effort.

Alongside his political responsibilities, Chintakayala Vijay has been involved in a range of social welfare initiatives. Through the Annapurna Akshayapatra Foundation, he has supported food distribution programmes benefiting thousands of people. His philanthropic activities have also included organising medical camps in remote areas, providing scholarships to underprivileged students and promoting healthcare access through the "Diagnostics on Wheels" initiative. A "Solar Tree" project established at a government hospital to support tribal pregnant women is among the welfare initiatives associated with his public service efforts.

The son of senior TDP leader and former minister Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, who currently serves as Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Chintakayala Vijay inherited a strong political legacy. However, his rise within the party has been shaped by years of organisational work, political engagement and grassroots participation.

With his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, Chintakayala Vijay is set to take on a larger role in public life. The appointment marks a significant milestone in his political career and reflects the party leadership's confidence in a leader who has grown through the organisation's ranks while maintaining a strong presence in both political and social spheres.
