SC Questions CBI on Necessity of Further Probe in YS Viveka Murder Case
New Delhi: In a significant development regarding the murder case of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, the Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the necessity of further investigation. The apex court directed the agency to provide specific details on who they intend to take into custody and which particular aspects of the case require deeper scrutiny.

The bench, led by Justice M.M. Sundresh, was hearing a petition filed by the victim’s daughter, Dr. Sunitha Reddy, challenging the trial court's orders regarding the investigation. Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, representing the petitioner, argued that although they approached the trial court following the Supreme Court's earlier directions, the lower court failed to fully consider the key issues raised in their plea.

Luthra contended that the trial court permitted only a partial investigation based on aspects that were not originally included in the petition, arguing that such a limitation was not legally sound.

Responding to these arguments, the Supreme Court sought a clear stance from the CBI on whether the probe needs to continue. The counsel representing the central agency requested two weeks to consult with the investigating officer and submit comprehensive details to the court. Acceding to the request, the bench adjourned the hearing to February 5, 2026.
