Andhra Pradesh to Draft Major Proposals Under Purvodaya Scheme
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday directed officials to draft proposals worth ₹40,000 crore under the Purvodaya scheme to ensure the balanced development of all three regions of Andhra Pradesh.
During a review meeting at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister instructed that the funds be equally allocated, with ₹20,000 crore earmarked for irrigation and the remaining ₹20,000 crore for infrastructure projects. Of the infrastructure budget, ₹5,000 crore will be dedicated to improving rural roads and their connectivity to state and national highways.
Chandrababu Naidu emphasized boosting the agriculture and horticulture sectors, instructing officials to complete 23 major and medium irrigation projects in the Prakasam and Rayalaseema regions. Plans include developing 82 clusters in these districts as horticulture hubs and expanding cultivation across 20 lakh acres.
The Chief Minister also called for plans to divert Godavari and Krishna floodwaters to drought-prone areas, including the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar project. For the Uttarandhra region, he highlighted its suitability for oil palm and horticulture crops and stressed the promotion of organic farming. Officials were also tasked with implementing the ₹169 crore Vamsadhara–Nagavali river interlinking project.
Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav and Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu were also present at the meeting.
