Manchu Lakshmi Recalls "Horrifying" Incident on Her First Bus Ride

Actress and producer Manchu Lakshmi has spoken openly about a traumatic experience from her teenage years, recalling an incident of sexual harassment that occurred when she was just 15. In a recent interview, she said the memory remains painful even today.

Lakshmi explained that she rarely used public transport in her childhood, as she typically travelled in a private vehicle with security. However, on one particular day, her school arranged for students to take a public bus to collect examination hall tickets. Describing it as her first-ever bus journey, she said she was excited until the unexpected incident left her shocked.

According to her account, a man in the crowded bus touched her inappropriately, leaving her frightened and confused. She recalled being unable to process what had happened in that moment. It was only after confiding in her friends that she felt a little more secure.

Lakshmi expressed deep concern for women who rely on public transport daily, noting that many silently endure similar harassment. She added that several women hesitate to speak about their experiences, leading to emotional distress and long-term psychological impact.

Emphasising the need for collective responsibility, Lakshmi urged society to ensure better safety for women and to work towards preventing such incidents. She said her experience highlights how vulnerable women can be, regardless of background, and called for stronger awareness and protection measures.
