Mumbai's Dominant Victory in IPL Eliminator. Gujarat Titans Exit the Tournament!
In a thrilling eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season held on May 30, Mumbai Indians achieved a spectacular 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans, bringing the latter’s campaign to an end. Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a formidable total of 228 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Chasing a steep target of 229 runs, Gujarat Titans suffered an early setback as captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for just 1 run. However, Sai Sudharsan made a valiant effort to revive the innings with a remarkable knock. He scored 80 runs off 49 balls, hitting 10 fours and 1 six. Though Kushal Mendis played an aggressive cameo of 20 runs off 10 deliveries, which included 1 four and 2 sixes, he was dismissed hit wicket and could not stay at the crease long.
Washington Sundar kept the hopes alive with a blazing innings of 48 runs from 24 balls, featuring 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. Sherfane Rutherford also contributed with a decent 24 off 15 deliveries, striking 4 fours. Towards the end, Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten with 16 runs from 11 balls, while Shahrukh Khan added 13 from 7 balls. However, their efforts fell short against the disciplined bowling attack of Mumbai Indians.
Among Mumbai’s bowlers, Trent Boult took two crucial wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Richard Gleeson, Mitchell Santner, and Ashwini Kumar claimed one wicket each. Bumrah's economical spell stood out as he conceded only 27 runs in his four overs while picking up one wicket.
With this victory, Mumbai Indians advanced further in the tournament, whereas Gujarat Titans’ journey came to a close. Mumbai Indians will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier-2 scheduled for June 1. The winner of that match will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final on June 3.
It is noteworthy that Royal Challengers Bangalore have already secured a place in the final by convincingly defeating Punjab Kings in Qualifier-1 held on Thursday.
