ITR Returns: Key Decision by the Income Tax Department

The Income Tax Department has taken a significant decision regarding the filing of Income Tax Returns (ITR). The deadline for filing ITRs for the Assessment Year 2025–26 has been extended. Originally, the due date was July 31, 2025, but it has now been extended to September 15, 2025.

According to sources, the primary reason for this extension is the delay in issuing notifications related to the ITR forms. The Income Tax Department issued an official announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) account concerning this matter.

"In accordance with the changes made in the ITR forms notified for the Assessment Year 2025–26, additional time is required to ready the system. To facilitate taxpayers in filing their returns smoothly and without difficulties, we are extending the deadline from July 31 to September 15," the Income Tax Department stated in the announcement.
