IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer and Stoinis Fire as Punjab Post 206 Against Delhi
As part of the IPL 2025 season, Punjab Kings batters produced a scoring onslaught at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. In their match against Delhi Capitals, Punjab, led by captain Shreyas Iyer, posted a formidable total of 206 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs after being put in to bat.
Shreyas Iyer led from the front, scoring a half-century with 53 runs off 34 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes. Towards the end of the innings, Marcus Stoinis exploded with a fiery 44 runs off just 16 balls, smashing three fours and four sixes, pushing Punjab's score to a commanding position.
Delhi Capitals' stand-in captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to field first. Punjab lost opener Priyamsh Arya early, dismissed for 6 runs by Mustafizur Rahman. However, Josh Inglis (32 off 12 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Prabhsimran Singh (28 off 18 balls, including three boundaries and one six) counter-attacked with aggressive batting. Both were eventually dismissed in quick succession by Vipraj Nigam.
At that point, Shreyas Iyer tried to stabilise the innings alongside Nehal Wadhera, who contributed 16 runs. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Iyer played a composed knock and completed his fifty. Once Marcus Stoinis arrived at the crease, the scoring rate surged dramatically. In particular, he tore into Mohit Sharma in the 19th over, hitting two sixes and two fours.
Among Delhi's bowlers, Mustafizur Rahman claimed three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam took two each. Mukesh Kumar secured one wicket. However, both Mohit Sharma and Mukesh Kumar conceded runs heavily, allowing Punjab batters to dominate. As a result, Delhi were set a daunting target of 207 runs.
