Janhvi Kapoor Emotionally Remembers Her Mother at Cannes

Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor grew emotional during her debut appearance on the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025. Remembering her late mother, legendary actress Sridevi, Janhvi became tearful. She recalled that Cannes held a special place in their family’s heart, particularly for Sridevi, and said the town was deeply intertwined with cherished memories.

Speaking in a “Get Ready With Me” segment for Vogue India, Janhvi shared her family’s bond with the town of Cannes. “This was my mother’s favourite place to visit for holidays. We spent three to four consecutive summer vacations here,” she stated. Janhvi added that many key milestones in Sridevi’s career, including awards and celebrations, were commemorated together as a family in Cannes. “Whether she received an award or her film English Vinglish premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, we always celebrated those moments together as a family. All the major chapters of her life, we celebrated here,” Janhvi recalled.

Although Janhvi was accompanied this time by her father Boney Kapoor and sister Khushi Kapoor, she expressed how strange and painful it felt to be in Cannes without Sridevi. “She used to take me along for every important moment in her life. I miss her deeply now,” Janhvi said, visibly emotional. She noted that Sridevi played a pivotal role in shaping her cinematic journey, and being at Cannes without her felt like an emotional void.

Despite the glamour of the festivities, Janhvi’s heartfelt connection with her mother resonated deeply with fans on social media. Many praised her for keeping Sridevi’s legacy alive. Beyond her words, Janhvi paid tribute to her mother through her choice of attire. For her red carpet debut on May 20, she wore a stunning rose-coloured gown designed by Tarun Tahiliani. The delicate veil adorned with pearls and her pearl jewellery evoked the classic grace and elegance associated with Sridevi.
