Celina Jaitly Says Sindoor Is a Statement Against Terrorism, Hails Aishwarya Rai’s Look
At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan captivated audiences with her unique ensemble. During the event held on May 21, she appeared wearing sindoor (vermilion) along with traditional Indian jewellery and a white saree. The images of her striking appearance quickly went viral on the internet.

Actress Celina Jaitly responded to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s appearance with sindoor. In a social media post, she explained the profound meaning behind the act of wearing sindoor. Celina Jaitly stated that beyond being a cultural tradition, sindoor sends a powerful message against terrorism and intolerance.

Speaking through her Instagram account, Celina Jaitly wrote, “Sindoor is currently trending across the globe. It is not merely a symbol of marital status. It stands as a powerful representation of India's collective spirit, love, sacrifice, and resistance. As the world admires its beauty, we must remember its true meaning. It is sacred, powerful, and today, it is also a statement.”

She further elaborated, “Sindoor is not just a personal expression—it is a call to stand against terrorism, to demand accountability, and to defend our right to live in peace.” She added that through sindoor, we honour those we love, those we have lost, and those who are fighting to bring them back. “We wear it not only as a tradition but as a pledge to uphold everything it symbolizes,” she said.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, by pairing her ivory saree and traditional ornaments with sindoor, became a standout presence at Cannes.
