Indian Woman’s Candid Post Exposes Job Woes After UK Studies

An Indian professional based in London has issued a strong warning to students in India who aspire to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom and build a promising future there. She stated that job opportunities in the UK after completing a master’s degree are extremely limited, and expressed concern that nearly 90 percent of her peers who studied with her were forced to return to India due to unemployment.

Janvi Jain, a marketing professional who went to the UK for her postgraduate studies after completing a bachelor’s degree in India, shared her personal experiences through a post on the platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), highlighting the harsh ground realities. “There are no jobs in the UK. Many people thinking of coming here for a master’s degree are messaging me. I have only one thing to tell them — do not come. Around 90 percent of my batchmates had to return home because they couldn’t find jobs. Unless you have money to waste, don’t consider this option. Getting a job in the UK has become extremely difficult,” Janvi Jain wrote in her post.

She mentioned that she was fortunate to have secured a job, but emphasized that such cases are rare. According to her, the situation was not always this grim. In the past, about 60 to 70 percent of international students were able to find employment after graduation. However, the current landscape has changed drastically due to a more challenging job market, stricter visa regulations, and companies’ reluctance to sponsor work permits.

Janvi Jain’s post has sparked widespread discussion on social media. Several users also pointed out the hardships faced by international students not only in the UK but also across other European countries. One user commented, “Pursuing a master’s degree and trying to settle in European Union countries is a very different scenario nowadays. Rising living costs, limited job opportunities, and intense competition have made things more difficult than before. There was a time when moving to the UK was considered a stepping stone to a bright future. Many of my friends in the UK and EU are struggling — some have even returned to India.”

Another user thanked Janvi Jain for her honest insight, stating, “Thank you for speaking the truth. It is crucial to carefully assess the risks before taking a step forward.” A different user wrote, “This is 100 percent true. My friend said the same thing. Most people in her batch couldn’t get jobs and had to return.”
