KIA Launches New Clavis MPV in India, Bookings Begin May 9
Kia India, a prominent automobile manufacturer, has introduced its latest multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), the Kia Carens Clavis, to the Indian market. The company clarified that this new Clavis variant will be sold alongside the existing Carens model. Bookings for this premium MPV will open on May 9, and prices are scheduled to be officially announced on May 23. The vehicle features a striking design and is equipped with advanced features.
Although based on the current Carens platform, the Kia Carens Clavis presents numerous design changes. Its exterior draws inspiration from the Kia EV5 model sold in international markets. The front showcases new triangular three-pod LED headlamps and angular LED DRLs, offering a standout appearance. The modern look is further enhanced by 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and connected LED tail lamps. Bumpers with faux silver skid plates add to its rugged appeal. The MPV will be available in eight monotone colour options, including a newly introduced Ivory Silver Glass.
The interior features a dual-tone navy and beige cabin. Buyers can choose between six- or seven-seat configurations. The dashboard includes a two-spoke steering wheel, and dual 12.3-inch screens – one for the driver display and the other for the infotainment system – similar to those seen in the Kia Seltos. Other premium offerings include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, four-way powered driver seat, nine-speaker Bose sound system, and wireless phone charger.
In terms of safety, Kia continues to prioritize protection features. The Clavis comes equipped with six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, disc brakes on all wheels, electronic parking brake, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Key ADAS functionalities include adaptive cruise control and driver attention warning.
The MPV will be offered with three engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 115 PS, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 160 PS, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 116 PS. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual, six-speed iMT, seven-speed DCT, and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The Kia Carens Clavis will be available in seven variants: HTE, HTE (O), HTK, HTK Plus, HTK Plus (O), HTX, and HTX Plus. Market sources estimate that the starting price will be around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected to offer strong competition to models such as the Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6, and Toyota Rumion. Industry experts believe it could also serve as a price-conscious alternative to higher-end models like the Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Invicto, and Toyota Innova Crysta.
