Amidst Ongoing Conflict, Ambati Rayudu's Controversial Remarks Spark Outrage

Former Indian cricket team player Ambati Rayudu has ignited a major controversy with his comments on the Indian Army’s recent counterterrorism operation, ‘Operation Sindoor 2.0’, launched in response to terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. Rayudu, in a social media post, wrote, “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.” This remark has triggered widespread backlash from netizens.

Numerous online users have strongly criticized Ambati Rayudu, questioning how he could make such a statement without fully understanding the issue. Many asserted that a firm response to terrorist acts is essential; otherwise, the perpetrators may become emboldened. Some even went as far as to describe Rayudu as sympathetic to Pakistan, expressing severe disapproval of his remarks. These critics stressed that the Indian Army is merely retaliating against Pakistan’s provocations and called on Rayudu to acknowledge this reality. They argued that instead of delivering messages of peace during such a sensitive time, support should be extended to the armed forces.

Facing an overwhelming wave of public outrage, Ambati Rayudu appeared to soften his stance, though he did not delete his initial contentious tweet. In what seemed to be an attempt to ease the public’s anger, he posted two follow-up tweets. In the first, he wrote, “Praying for peace and security in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and other border regions of India. May strength, safety, and swift recovery be with all those affected by the attacks. Jai Hind!”

In a subsequent tweet, he expressed appreciation for the Indian Army, stating, “In moments like these, we stand united with resolve, not fear. Grateful to our Indian Army, which carries the nation’s burden with unmatched courage, discipline, and selflessness. Your sacrifices will never go unnoticed. Your bravery keeps our borders safe and makes the tricolour soar. May your service lead us to a more peaceful tomorrow. Jai Hind!”

However, these conciliatory messages have not been sufficient to quell public anger. Many continue to target Ambati Rayudu over his original “eye for an eye” tweet. Some have gone further, referencing his cricket career, Indian Premier League involvement, and political affiliations in their responses, offering criticism in their own distinct ways.
