Anna Canteens scheme put in cold storage?
Hyderabad, April 5 , 2015: A leading national daily has reported that the AP Government has put in cold storage its much publicised assurance of launching Anna Canteens in the state akin to Amma Canteens in Tamil Nadu. As a follow up to his pre-poll promise, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had repeatedly announced post-poll that Government was committed to launch Anna Canteens in Guntur, Ananatapuram, Visakha, Tirupati and some other towns very soon. Civil supplies minister Paritala Sunita had also said several times that Anna canteens would soon be launched in the state.Government has even constituted a cabinet sub committee on the implementation of the project and its members went to Chennai to examine the operations of Amma Canteens. Reports said the committee was informed that nearly 1.5 lakh people are consuming food in Chennai alone under the Amma Canteens scheme. While every one felt happy and thought that government would soon implement the scheme in the state, the government has suddenly stopped talking about it, said the daily, saying that the inaction on the project could be due to lack of funds. There is also speculation that the Government may implement the scheme just before the next elections to gain political mileage.
