Why the Name ‘Sindoor’ for Strikes on Pakistan’s Terror Camps?
In a major military action early Wednesday morning, the Indian Armed Forces launched a coordinated offensive targeting terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), under the codename “Operation Sindoor.” According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the operation specifically targeted locations believed to be involved in orchestrating and directing terrorist attacks on Indian soil.
Reliable sources informed ANI news agency that the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force jointly executed the operation, employing specialized and precision-guided weaponry. The action struck a total of nine terrorist targets—four inside Pakistan, in regions such as Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot, and five in PoK. The strikes reportedly resulted in the complete destruction of the identified terror camps.
The operation was conducted with high-level coordination among all branches of the armed forces. Necessary troops and resources were mobilized to execute the strikes. Credible sources confirmed to ANI that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the entire course of Operation Sindoor throughout the night.
The selected targets were reportedly associated with senior leadership of terrorist groups Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which are known for supporting and executing terror activities in India.
The Meaning Behind the Name ‘Sindoor’
Analysts believe the naming of the operation as “Sindoor” carries symbolic significance. Traditionally, sindoor (vermilion) is worn by married Hindu women as a mark of marital commitment. However, in this context, the term is interpreted as a poignant tribute to the victims of a gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam. Reports suggest that during that attack, the terrorists allegedly identified victims by asking their names and religion before killing them.
By naming the mission “Operation Sindoor,” India is seen as paying homage to the victims of that incident and delivering a strong message of justice and remembrance. Analysts view this name as a symbolic representation of national resolve against terrorism.
