India Asks ADB to Halt Financial Aid to Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack
In the wake of the Pahalgam massacre, India has intensified its diplomatic efforts against Pakistan. The central government is strategically moving to halt the flow of international financial aid to Pakistan. As part of this initiative, India has formally urged the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to immediately cease all financial assistance being extended to Pakistan.
According to informed sources, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman directly raised this issue with ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa during a recent meeting. The sources stated that Nirmala Sitharaman made a clear appeal for halting financial cooperation with Pakistan. They also noted that she had previously discussed this issue with the Finance Minister of Italy and is continuing consultations with several other European nations.
As part of its broader strategy to increase pressure on Pakistan through international forums, India is pushing to have Pakistan re-listed on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List. In addition, India is appealing to the international community to review the flow of funds being received by Islamabad from various multilateral institutions. These diplomatic measures are aimed at economically restraining Pakistan, which faces allegations of supporting terrorism, according to Indian sources.
