Telangana High Court Sitting Judge Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini Passes Away

Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini, a sitting judge of the Telangana High Court, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 61. She had been suffering from health complications for some time and breathed her last at her residence in Hyderabad.


Her mortal remains have been kept at her home in Hafeezpet. According to family members, the funeral rites will be conducted on Monday at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills. The Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, Justice Sujoy Paul, along with other judges and members of the legal fraternity, expressed profound grief over her passing and conveyed their deepest condolences to her family.


Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini began her legal career in 1995 as an advocate. She practiced in Visakhapatnam, handling civil, criminal, labour law, and matrimonial dispute cases. In November 2008, she entered judicial service through direct recruitment and was appointed as a district judge. She served as an Additional District Judge in various parts of the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh. Following her promotion, she was sworn in as a judge of the Telangana High Court on 24 March 2022. According to seniority, she held the 16th position on the bench and was scheduled to retire next year.


She earned her law degree from NBM Law College in Visakhapatnam and completed her Master of Laws in Labour and Industrial Law from Andhra University. Prior to that, she had obtained master’s degrees in Sociology, Public Administration, and Political Science. Her father, Maturi Appa Rao, served as an officer in the Commercial Taxes Department. Justice Girija Priyadarsini is survived by her husband, Dr. K. Vijay Kumar, and two sons, Nikhil and Akhil.
